What better way to end the summer than to spend a glorious day a visiting the classic, if not corny, Brooklyn beach community of Coney Island. Crowds returned en masse this weekend, and long lines were the order of the day, as New Yorkers turned out for one more spin of the Tilt-A-Whirl, and one more Nathan’s hot dog before the end of the season — and maybe longer. Yes, according to news reports, Astroland — the historic amusement park at Coney Island — is reportedly closing its doors for ever.

  1. Well, there is quite a grassroots backlash against the closing. Just another NY landmark pushed aside in the name of progress. But, who knows, the Cyclone may live to rumble another day. We rode it last weekend, and it may be old but it still is one heck of a fun roller coaster!
